CALL FOR
SUBMISSIONS
11.01.2022 - 01.15.2023
_|Feature Creep| is seeking submissions from artists, writers, musicians, game makers, and all other types of creatives, in works of any and every medium, which speak to or engage with the genre of |Hypermodern Horror|. Submitted works will be included in the steadily growing Feature Creep Archive, where they can operate in conversation with other works that touch upon this expanding genre.
_We have three upcoming monthly themes, which will be detailed below, but are also accepting works which speak to the genre of Hypermodern Horror more broadly. If you are interested in submitting work, please read the guidelines below.
_Theme One: GHOSTED
_Embracing all meanings of the term Ghosted within a contemporary / digital context, we are looking for works which speak to digital occultism, hauntology, social isolation, memory (digital, cultural or personal), grief, loss, or online identity. How does the supernatural operate within digital or other contemporary structures? How does the digital alter or complicate an understanding of the merely natural? What does it mean for something to be gone in a world of infinite redundancies and limitless memory?
_Theme Two: LAMENT CONFIGURATIONS - ARCHITECTURE BEYOND PAIN OR PLEASURE
_One of the defining features of Hypermodernity is the increasing existence of architecure (both superstructural and infrastructural) which operates in ways that are utterly beyond the human. This could be due to sheer scale, either of literal size, scope, or global ubiquity. It could also be structures and systems which intentionally subvert human activity and human need in service of Capital and other control mechanisms. What we build is increasingly no longer for us, no longer takes human capacities or even human use into consideration. This is architecture beyond pain or pleasure, and we are seeking any works which speak to this development in any of its multiple forms.
_Theme Three: UNKNOWN CALLER
_It has become a well worn joke at this point that Millenials and the genrations which have come after them are afraid to answer their phones. There is, as with most humour, a kernel of truth to this. One which speaks to contemporary conditions in which constant precarity, financial violence, social and digital exploitation and malevolent forces veiled by technologically supported anonymity run rampant. We aren't wrong to get a chill when we see the words Unknown Caller appear on our screens, and we're looking for any works which speak to this or the underlying material and social realities which feed into it.
_To submit, please send either a Mac compatible file of the work you’d like to submit, or a link to the work, (please ensure that the privacy/security settings allow us access) along with the following:
_1) A 250-750 Word Creator Bio, including your education (either formal or informal), your professional/exhibition experience (if any) as well as any other information about yourself that you feel is relevant to your submission, such as background, lived experience, or communities that you are a part of.
_2) A 250-750 Word Contextualizing Statement about the work which includes any information required to fully engage with the work, as well as your reasons for submitting specifically to Feature Creep, and how you feel the work fits into the Hypermodern Horror genre, or one of the above mentioned themes.
_3) Contact information, including an email address, name (if submitting as a group or collective, please include both the group name and the individual names of each member) as well as any other relevant information, such as your pronouns.
